Exploring the Next Phase of DECICE Infrastructure Deployment
As the DECICE project progresses into its next crucial phase, we would like to share an overview of the upcoming activities that mark significant milestones in our journey towards empowering the computing continuum from cloud to edge. This next stage focuses on refining and deploying our project’s infrastructural environment and validating key use cases to ensure real-world applicability.
Where We Are
Our team has completed a detailed compilation of the final environment specifications, bridging the outcomes from previous deliverables. We have also meticulously detailed the hardware and software to be deployed and have started the procurement process.
Mapping and Validation of Use Cases
Mapping specific use cases to our baseline architecture is now a key step. This involves understanding the hardware and software needs for each use case, and detailing these ensures that our architecture can support them effectively. Each use, in fact, case brings unique requirements and challenges:
Smart City Infrastructure for Autonomous Driving: our first use case dives into the real-time processing needs of autonomous vehicles and cooperative intelligent transportation systems in urban environments. Here, the challenge is to manage data from multiple sensors and intersections in real-time, necessitating stringent latency, standards compliance solutions and GPU for inference.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scans: the second use case addresses the complexities of processing MRI scans, which involve high-resolution imaging (affecting storage requirements) and sensitive data management.
Disaster Management and Emergency Response: the third use case involves creating a digital platform to support emergency responses using data from drones and satellites. This platform aims to provide critical computational support for drone operations and mission-critical tasks.
In May 2024, we plan to set up an initial deployment to help us understand and refine the interaction between our infrastructure and the applications it supports.
Future Steps
Looking ahead, the project will focus on collecting metrics and statistics to further integrate with our scheduler, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the DECICE framework. This data will play a key role in our deployment strategies and in ensuring that our infrastructure meets the evolving needs of the computing continuum.
